2017 AzDHA Capitol Day is a Success!

The Arizona Dental Hygienists’ Association hosted a Capitol Day on Tuesday, February 28th. Students and faculty from Fortis College, Phoenix College, Mesa Community College, Carrington College, and Mohave Community College joined AzDHA leaders and members for the day. The group of 106 attendees received legislative updates from AzDHA lobbyist Jessie Armendt of Axiom Public Affairs. Twenty-six meetings with legislators were scheduled to advocate for the passage of our bill SB1362, which makes a number of clarifying modifications to the dental practice act and improves license portability for dental hygienists. In addition, we encouraged legislators to support Governor Ducey’s budget proposal that includes restoring emergency dental benefits for adults on Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, Arizona’s Medicaid program. The group was formally welcomed in both the House and Senate. In addition, all 90 legislators received information sheets about the state of oral health in AZ, dental hygienists, AzDHA contact info, and an informational flyer about Affiliated Practice Dental Hygienists.
