Here are our primary legislative objectives this year:

  • ALLOW AFFILIATED PRACTICE HYGIENISTS TO SUPERVISE DENTAL ASSISTANTS – allows APDHs to delegate various tasks to dental assistants including taking radiographs and coronal polishing (if certified) according to their affiliated practice agreement.
  • ALLOW MEDICAL DOCTORS TO SUPERVISE DENTAL HYGIENISTS IN A HOSPITAL SETTING – dental hygienists would be able to provide limited services that are NOT billable as dental services; intent is to allow hospitals to bill medical insurance for critical, basic oral health care delivered by dental hygienists (rather than nurses) to patients in ICU, oncology units, etc.
  • SECURE DENTAL BENEFIT FOR PREGNANT WOMEN ON AHCCCS – Ensuring mothers-to-be have access to dental services under AHCCCS (Arizona’s Medicaid Program).
