Here are a few of our legislative priorities:
- SB 1445 DENTAL BENEFIT FOR PREGNANT WOMEN ON AHCCCS – Ensuring mothers have access to dental services under AHCCCS.
- SB 1377: DENTAL THERAPY; LICENSURE; REGULATION – Legislation to authorize dental therapy; a dental therapist will be licensed & educated through a CODA-accredited dental education program. Working as part of the dental team, a dental therapist would provide diagnostic, preventive, therapeutic, and minimally invasive restorative services.
- HB 2127: CHILDREN’S HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM – A 2016 bill restored KidsCare, Arizona’s CHIP program, but had a trigger freezing enrollment if federal funding drops below 100%. This bill amends this trigger, giving the state the flexibility and bases enrollment on availability of both federal and state dollars. This will enable Arizona’s low-income children to continue accessing needed health care services (including oral health services) even if federal funding is disrupted.
And one last thing!!
Although we will be arranging some meetings with legislators, you are encouraged to request an appointment with your Senator &/or Representatives. Try to get an appointment after 9 AM. Please copy Deb Kappes ([email protected]) on your communication. Here is an example of how to make your request:
Subject line: Request for Appointment – March 1
“I am one of your constituents and a dental hygienist. I will be visiting the Capitol during the Arizona Dental Hygienists’ Association Day at the Capitol on Thursday, March 1st. I would sincerely appreciate an opportunity to visit with you to discuss a number of issues affecting oral health care for our fellow citizens that are being considered by the State Legislature this year. Would you or a member of your staff contact me to arrange for an appointment? Thank you for your consideration.”
Allow several days for staff to respond to you via email.
